Need Help Choosing a Computer Case?

The computer case is much more than just the housing for your internal components, so choosing the right case is very important. When you choose a case, you are not just choosing the look that you want your computer to have, but you’re choosing the airflow, the heat distribution, the sound, the protection against outside heat and EMI, and operational functionality that you want your computer to have. Computer cases generally come in three sizes, mini towers, midi towers, and full towers, each suiting the needs of a different person.

Full towers provide lots of room for those extra expansion cards, they have extra optical drive bays, hard drive bays and provides excellent airflow across the major hot-spots of your case. These cases are particularly large and may not fit in some computer desks.

Midi towers are the more “average” computer; these towers still provide lots of expandability and airflow for the average computer user but in a smaller more practicable size. With the right setup these can provide just as much airflow to the major components and still allows quite large motherboards to be installed, and can still allow for a gaming beast, without the weight or size of a full tower.

Mini Towers really reflect their name; Mini. These cases are only really used for low demand computers, as they can’t provide a large airflow as both the midi and the Full Towers can. They can however fit on top of your desk and not look out of place.

Great Heat distribution, EMI protection and sound insulation are usually only provided in the high-end cases such as Antec or Thermaltake Cases, but they will protect the components that you’ve put so much work into choosing, assembling and setting up.
